The little ant went around all the bears in the area, all 27 of them, whispering in their ears to watch their steps when they walked around. Then, the little ant went back to its home and went to bed. Next morning, right after it woke up, it told all its brothers and sisters about what it had done the previous night. “Oh, you’re a silly ant, a silly ant”, most of them said. The ant didn’t feel silly at all. It thought that what it had done was worth it. Maybe some of the bears won’t listen, but some of them might. Maybe some of them might listen only for a while, and those ones could be reminded later on to watch their steps again. Over the past few days some of the bears were more careful with their steps. Fewer bears remembered only after watching some of the bears being careful. Some bears didn’t change their walk at all. Either their ears were too clogged the night the ant went around whispering in their ears, or their heads were too clogged up to watch their steps during their days. Overall though, over the next three weeks there was a 27% reduction in the rate of casualty at the Ant-Squashed-Under-Bear’s-Foot Hospital.
